A Clnical Study of Terminal Ileal Perforative Peritonitis

Abstract
Clinical review was made on 45 cases of Terminal Ileal Perforative Peritonitis from Jan. 1965 to
July, 1968.
Those cases due to trauma was excluded in this study.
All of cases were operated on.
1) The patients (45 cases) were between 21-38 yeres of age.
2) Of 45 cases, 15 cases (33%) occurred disease in Summer season and 14 cases (31%) in Autumn.
3) The most prominent symptoms were fever(100%), anorexia (84.4%), headache (75.6%) and general malaise(46.7%).
4) Leukopenia on 11 cases (24.4%), leukocytosis on 10 cases (23.3%) and normal leucocyte count on 24 cases(53.3%) were present.
5) Most lesions of ileum, perforated, were located within 30 cm from the ileo-cecal junction (23cases-51.1%)
6) Single ileal perforative lesion was seen in 42 cases (93.3%) and lesions of 0.1-0.3 cm in Dia. on 19 cases (42.2%)
7) Roentgenologically, subdiaphragmatic free air was seen on 19 cases (42.2%) too.
8) One stage operative procedure was carried out on 45 cases (95.6%) and 2 cases (4.4%) were exteriolized.
9) For the postoperative complication of ileal perforative peritonitis, we experienced wound infection on 14 cases (31.1%), & pulm. & urinary complication on 13 cases (28.9%).
